All roles screen lists all the roles exist in your WordPress site. A role represents a collection of capabilities. When a user is assigned to a role, that user inherits those capabilities.
There are five built-in roles in WordPress – Administrator, Author, Contributor, Editor and Subscriber.
You can also create your own custom roles and assign it to users. Users can have multiple roles assigned at the same time. Click on the “Add New” button to create a new role.
Some plugins/themes create roles when they are activated. You might not be able to remove these roles from your WordPress site as long as they are active. Because those plugins/theme will recreate the role if they are deleted.
